Rugby Bumper StickersEver heard of a wimpy rugby player? That would have to be the biggest oxymoron in the English language. If you're a wimp, you'd never play Rugby, and if you do play Rugby, you couldn't be a wimp. You'd be dead in two seconds and then they'd eat you. Well maybe not because you wouldn't be worthy. If you're a Rugby player you understand this bumper sticker. If you're not a Rugby player, contemplate the meaning of this bumper sticker and you'll be enlightened:
When someone says, "I'm a Rugby player" you look at them with respect, and you know without being told anything more that this person is tough. If you don't think that, take my advice and fake it! And never ask for proof. Just go to a Rugby match or watch one on TV. Or just imagine football with no helmet, no protection and few rules. Then tell the players on both sides that the losing team will be executed by a firing squad after they've been starved of food and water for two weeks! A slight exaggeration perhaps, but you get the picture.
We knew when we put these bumper stickers together that design-wise we had some parameters-- no cutesy fonts, no clean, elegant fonts, but fonts that were rough around the edges. Battle-worn fonts. For colors we had a limited selection: red, black and white. To put it plainly you can't have a Rugby bumper sticker that would win design awards. It wouldn't be for sale at The Gap, or Bon-Macy's, but not Walmart either. These bumper stickers had to say life and death, black and white. No pink background, no frilly fonts and no nonsense graphics. They had to be bold, in your face and smelling of sweat and death!
